Share of each coin's modeled liquidation volume within 5% of price that comes from each exchange. In the model it comes from each exchange's own open interest history: the more positions were opened there and are still open, the larger its share.

Where the exchanges agree on a level, the combined cluster is stronger; where they disagree, a single-exchange map shows a cluster that is only part of the story - or misses one.

How the aggregation works

  1. Every 5 minutes we read open interest and candles for each coin's USDT perpetual on Binance + Bybit + OKX.
  2. Each exchange gets its own model: new open interest is placed at that bar's average price on that exchange, split into longs and shorts, spread over 10x / 25x / 50x / 100x leverage, and removed when price trades through the level. Full model: how to read a liquidation heatmap.
  3. The combined map is the sum of the exchange maps. Nothing is rescaled: an exchange with more open interest simply contributes more.
  4. Binance and OKX split new positions by their own taker volume; Bybit does not publish one, so its split uses Binance taker volume for the same coin and the same 5 minutes. OKX publishes 5-minute open interest only for the last few days; before 17 Oct 2026, 05:45 UTC its map uses hourly open interest spread evenly across each hour.
This is an estimate, not real stop orders. Exchanges do not publish where positions get liquidated. Whether price is actually drawn to the clusters is something we test separately: liquidation heatmap test (undecided, forward test running).

FAQ

What is an aggregated liquidation heatmap?

A liquidation heatmap that combines several futures exchanges. Here each exchange is modeled on its own open interest and candles, then the estimated levels are added together.

Why aggregate exchanges instead of using one?

Positions on each exchange were opened at different times and prices, so their liquidation levels differ. One exchange shows only its own share of the leverage - for bitcoin, Bybit currently accounts for 37% of the modeled levels within 5% of price.

Which exchanges are included?

Binance + Bybit + OKX USDT perpetuals. Together they hold a large part of open interest in these coins, but not all of it.
