What CVD is
Every trade has a buyer and a seller, but only one of them crossed the spread with a market order - the taker. Cumulative volume delta adds up taker buys minus taker sells over time. It does not say more coins were bought than sold (that is always equal); it says which side was in a hurry.
- CVD and price rising together: buyers with market orders are driving the move.
- CVD rising, price flat: aggressive buying absorbed by resting sell orders.
- CVD falling, price rising: price lifted by limit buyers or shorts covering.
Not a tested signal. These readings are conventions. We have not measured whether any CVD pattern predicts the next move; see what happened to other popular signals in our tests.
