How to read CVD
- CVD up, price up: buyers using market orders are driving the move.
- CVD up, price flat or down: aggressive buying is being absorbed by resting sell orders - a popular "divergence" reading.
- CVD down, price up: price rises while takers sell - often limit buyers or short covering doing the lifting.
- These are conventions, not tested signals. We have not measured whether any CVD pattern predicts the next move; until we do, read it as a description of who traded aggressively. Our tests of other popular signals: research.
Where the numbers come from
Binance and OKX publish taker buy and sell volume for each 5-minute bar in coins; for Hyperliquid we add up every trade from its public trade stream by the aggressor side. Each bar is converted to US dollars at the Binance 5-minute close. Gate only publishes a buy/sell ratio, so it is not included; Bybit taker volume is not collected. The combined line uses only exchanges with data for the whole window: Hyperliquid joins the 30-day view once it has 30 days of data (collected since 22 October 2026). Data as JSON: API.
FAQ
What is NEAR CVD?
The running total of NEAR bought with market orders minus NEAR sold with market orders, here in US dollars. Rising CVD means takers have been net buyers; falling means net sellers.
Does CVD predict price?
We have not tested it as a signal yet, so we make no claim. Every trade has a buyer and a seller - CVD only shows which side used market orders.
Which exchanges are included?
Binance, OKX and Hyperliquid perpetual futures. Gate publishes only a ratio, not volumes; Bybit taker volume is not collected yet.
